Thier way chunk 2 part 2

"Once it became apparent that the steak was actually blue and the fries were actually green , some people became ill."

The production of having frozen potatoes delivered to restaurants had became a competitive business to many corporations. One of them who was the successful Simplot corporation,Lamb Weston, and McCaine who battled producing potatoes and giving them to famous restaurants. Those three frozen french fry providers control 80% of the french fries delivered to restaurants. Yet by doing so they have eliminated and acquired most of their smaller rivals. Yet by acquiring fries they make a huge profit off of farmers and told them to increase production and lowered prices like from every $1.50 someone would spend on a large fries the farmer would only receive 2 cents. Then the companies would tell the farmers to increase production which put them under pressure or not they would get out of business.Because of this the number of potato farmers had been decreasing though to this time the remaining farmers were given more land to harvest potatoes by the time only 1,100 farmers remained enough to fill a high school auditorium.one of the focuses of inputs and outputs that encourage in just one crop which is the potato that relied heavily on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, advanced harvesting and irrigation equipment by then American farmers had become the most productive farmers in the world at the time. Another thing that shocks me to know would be the chemicals that give off a tasty flavor, Like for every restaurant their fries and burgers would give off a distinctive flavor that would say "Oh those are McDonald's fries". or " That's Wendy's double cheese burger ".
What scientist would do is put artificial and natural flavors to the food we eat. As you see you would mostly see this on sodas, yogurts and desserts.  Scientist have discovered many different flavors in these Chemicals/ Potions as they put it, like Methyl anthranilate that would later be known as Grape kool aid and methyl-2-peridylketone makes a popcorn taste, and ethyl-3-hydroxybutanoate makes a marshmellow taste. Processors have tried hard in only using Natural flavors but have failed.
      Questions
  1. Why do you think farmers were given such low amount of money?
  2. How do you think people would react to the truth about our food?
  3. Does this still go on today?

Their Way 2nd chunk part 1

"In recent years conflicts between franchises and franchisors have become much more common .As the American market for fast food grows more saturated".Pg 99

As Then all fast food restaurants had began to climb up to success they began to spread and get even more richer that some people would try and oppose them.Though some people would try and make a franchise like Burger King, McDonalds, and Carls Jr though what they would do is buy a smaller business like Gumby Pizza, Hot Dog On A Stick, Chicken Shack, and Buddys Bar B-Q.Though most of the time these Fast Food chains would be sued for by other franchises who are upset by encroachment about inflated prices charged by suppliers. Also in 1998 a man named Dean sager said that Subway was one of the worst franchises in America and was the biggest problem in franchising and that other franchises were a success. Another franchise that was good is  the Little Caesars that was known to be the 4th best pizza franchise but it went on a downfall in 1992 when hundreds of restaurants began to close down, reasons because the employers were upset about the company's management. Another thing on where McDonalds, Burger King, and other restaurants would get their potatoes would be from a man named J.R Simplot Who produced potatoes in Idaho where the would be frozen, cut and assembled in a factory and shipped out to restaurants.First to start a potato business he rebelled against his domineering father, dropped out of school , found a job at a potato warehouse in Declo, Idaho were he sorted potatoes with a shaker sorter where he worked 9 to 10 hours a day and earned 30 cents.with his earnings he bought a rifle , a truck and 600 hogs, then at the age of 16 became a potato farmer. Then succeeded to be the largest shipper in potatoes in the west. They had become so popular because they were shipped to restaurants being the most consumed item on the menu. Then he met with Ray Kroc in 1965 and Simplot had the idea of switching to frozen fries than fresh instead of having crew members peeling potatoes for a bigger deal, Kroc had agreed to idea to try his fries and agreed with a handshake.

Questions
  1. Why were Franchises often sued?
  2. What was the relation with Ray Kroc and J.R Simplot?
  3. What restaurants were frozen Simplot potatoes shipped to?

the Resolution - Chunk 1, Part 2

"A manufacturer of 'playlands' explains why the fast food operators built these largely plastic structures: 'playlands' bring in children, who bring in parents, who bring in money." Pg. 47

The people behind these fast food corporations are very clever to come up with ideas to make playlands in their restaurants to attract child customers. They would advertise to the childish channels like  Nickoleodeon,Cartoon Network and Disney Channel to make the McDonalds look like a fun and happy place. They would be clever and devious to bring in children thats parents would spend spend spend.
Ray Kroc and the McDonald brothers were friends and as they got to know each other Kroc convinced the brothers to the McDonalds franchise to him in order gain success. As he did that he had helped the McDonald brothers get even more richer as he traveled state through state spreading the McDonalds establishment. And while he was doing that he had befriended Walt Disney they became trusted friends, in their friendship, Ray Kroc wanted to put the McDonalds  establishment in the upcoming Disneyland.Walt Disney and the McDonalds corporation had signed a Global marketing agreement successfully and had the McDonalds famous hamburgers and french fries sold at the Disneyland, but Ray wanted to change the price by 5 cents knowing many children are going into the park.Other ideas of theirs were about spreading the word by television advertisement. The fast food industries would target Children's channels like "Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and the Disney Channel knowing that many kids across the country will watch and be influenced. The McDonalds the main restaurant that kids would often go to had many ways of attracting young customers. They had the idea of making giant playgrounds so that children would be attracted and spend money, and had their mascot Ronald McDonald be entertaining to attract even more customers. The Burger King, Jack in the box and the main one McDonalds Strategy was to make customers fell that that have a trusted friend.

Question;
  1. How did Ray Kroc negotiate with the McDonald brothers?
  2. Why did the McDonalds Corporation want the playlands in their restaurant?
  3. How are the McDonalds and other restaurants doing now worldwide?

The Founding Fathers: Chunk 1, Part 1

"When Carl hear that a hot dog cart was for sale on Florence Ave across from the Good Year factory, he decided to buy it. Margaret strongly opposed the idea wondering where he would find the money. He borrowed $311 from the Bank of America using his car as collateral for the loan, and persuaded his wife to give him $15 in cash from her purse. 'I'm in business for myself now,' Carl thought after buying the cart. 'I'm on my way.'" Pg 15

One of the pioneers of the fast food industry, Carl Karcher, who had moved from the countryside to Anaheim after he had been chosen by his uncle Ben to work at his store as cashier. After a while he had met his soon to be wife and then started a family and lived in the Orange County. Carl had a job at a bakery delivering bread, but heard about a hot dog cart being sold in Florence Avenue. He bought the cart and had 2 young men work the stand while he delivered bread. He then made enough money to buy another hot dog cart then bought it and had his wife work the stand. Then By 1944 Carl had owned about 4 hot dog carts and quit his job at the bakery and bought a restaurant and started his own business called Carl's Drive in. This quote helps my opinion because it is the start of Carl going into business, By Carl buying the cart he changed his life by making him own his own establishment. The quote foreshadows that Carl would have a fast food industry of his own later on and would make people change their life styles and make other restaurants want to compete for customers.

Questions:
  1.  Why did Carl Karcher go to Anaheim?
  2. How did these pioneers go from having little businesses to having a giant corporation?
  3. How do these fast food incorporations gain their success while they were debuting?
